InDesign is for documents that have pages: reports, brochures, booklets, catalogues, leaflets, books. It is not a better Illustrator and it is not a tidier Word. It is a layout tool built around three ideas, frames, parent pages and styles, and once those make sense the rest of the application follows quickly.

Over two days you build a twelve-page booklet from a supplied text file and image set. Day one covers document setup with facing pages and bleed, the difference between the two selection tools that trips up everyone arriving from Illustrator, parent pages carrying running heads and automatic page numbers, and then type. You thread a long story through the booklet and control it with paragraph and character styles, so that changing every subheading in the document is one edit rather than forty.

Day two brings in pictures, colour and tables, including a formatted table built from a supplied spreadsheet using table and cell styles. You then assemble a two-fold A4 leaflet with correct folds, bleed and trim, run pre-flight to catch missing links, overset text and low-resolution images, and export both a press-ready PDF/X-4 and a tagged PDF with alt text and a sensible reading order. The final session packages the job so that a printer receives the fonts and links along with the file.

The syllabus maps to the published exam objectives for the Adobe Certified Professional in Adobe InDesign, which is delivered through Certiport. We prepare you for the exam. We do not award the certification, and no course can guarantee a pass.

Most print jobs pass through more than one application, so people who take this alongside Illustrator Level 1 tend to find the two reinforce each other: the logo and the diagrams are drawn in one, the pages are built in the other.

MyLearnPlus Adobe Faculty

Adobe Certified Professionals teaching the Creative Cloud track

The Creative Cloud track is taught by a small pool of practising designers, retouchers, editors and production artists rather than by one trainer with a broad brochure. Everyone who teaches on this track has to meet the same standard before they take a class: a current Adobe Certified Professional credential in the application they teach, obtained through Certiport in the same way we tell learners to obtain theirs, and recent production experience in a studio, agency or in-house team. Teaching Photoshop here means you still retouch files for clients. Teaching InDesign means you still send documents to print and deal with what comes back. Instructors work on the current Creative Cloud release, and they are expected to know the published exam objectives for the courses that prepare learners for an Adobe exam.

Classes are staffed one instructor per cohort, and the instructor for your date is named in your joining instructions before the course starts. A new instructor teaches the MyLearnPlus syllabus under observation before running it alone, so the exercise files, the workbook and the sequence of a day are the same whoever is in front of you. Large private cohorts are staffed with a second assisting instructor so that nobody waits with a hand up, and hybrid sessions with remote joiners are run with someone watching the online room. If an instructor has to be replaced at short notice the substitute teaches the same syllabus from the same materials, and we tell you before the day rather than on it.

Do I need my own laptop?
For live online classes, yes. You work on your own machine with InDesign already installed and you keep every file you build, including the finished booklet. For classroom sessions in Colombo a workstation with InDesign is provided, although you may bring your own laptop if you would rather work on the setup you use at your desk. We send system requirements and a setup check about a week before the class.
Is the Adobe software included in the price?
No. InDesign is a subscription from Adobe and we do not resell licences. If you do not have one, Adobe offers a free trial that covers the two days, and your employer may already hold licences you can be added to. Classroom seats in Colombo come with the software installed.
Should I use InDesign instead of Word for long reports?
For anything that will be printed, folded, or has to look consistent across dozens of pages, yes. InDesign gives you real control over bleed, image resolution, colour and typography, and its styles are stricter than Word's. For a document that is still being written and edited by several people, keep writing in Word and flow the final text into InDesign, which is exactly the workflow taught on day one.
What happens if I miss a day?
Every live session is recorded and the recording stays available for 12 months, so you can catch up in your own time. If you would rather sit the session again live, you can join that half day with a later cohort at no cost, subject to seats, and your free repeat of the full course still stands.
Do you issue a certificate?
Yes. You receive a MyLearnPlus certificate of completion, issued by Livezen Technologies, naming the course, the version of InDesign taught and the hours completed. That is a record of training rather than an Adobe qualification. The Adobe Certified Professional certification is a separate exam sat through Certiport.
Does this course prepare me for the Adobe Certified Professional exam?
It covers a large part of the published objectives for the Adobe Certified Professional in Adobe InDesign exam, and your instructor will point out which sessions map to them. The exam is booked and sat through a Certiport testing centre and is not included in the course fee, and we cannot guarantee a pass. If you go on to complete a second related professional certification, Adobe awards a Specialty Credential.
Can my employer be invoiced, and can we pay in rupees?
Yes. Organisations in Sri Lanka are invoiced in LKR and organisations elsewhere in USD, and we can issue a pro forma invoice against your purchase order before the class. Send your company details and the delegate names and we will raise it. For a team of four or more, private delivery is usually better value and lets us rebuild the booklet exercise around your own reports and press specifications.
