Illustrator Level 2

For designers who already use Illustrator. Leave with faster, cleaner production artwork.

මෙම පාඨමාලාව ගැන

Most people who use Illustrator every day learned it in fragments, on deadline, from whoever happened to be sitting next to them. Level 2 fills those gaps in a deliberate order and replaces slow habits with production methods: fewer anchor points, fewer duplicated objects, fewer files that fall apart when a client changes one colour.

Day one is about making artwork that would be tedious to draw by hand. You build custom art, scatter and pattern brushes, use blends to construct a decorative border, work with freeform gradients and gradient mesh, and make a repeating pattern with no visible seam, then apply it to a packaging panel. Appearance attributes and graphic styles run through the whole day, because they are what turns a revision into a two-second edit rather than an afternoon of redrawing.

Day two is production. You draw an isometric product illustration using precision transforms and the 3D and Materials effect, build a dieline on its own layer and place artwork against the cut and fold lines, use symbols and Global Edit to change a repeated element across several artboards at once, and set up a two-colour spot job with overprint checked in Separations Preview. There is a session on rescuing an inherited file, which is the job most designers actually inherit: unused swatches, thirty layers called Layer 1, and a path carrying four hundred anchor points where twelve would do.

Bring a live file you are stuck with. The last session of the second afternoon is a clinic, and real work from the room is usually the part people remember. If identity work is your goal in particular, the one-day Logo and Brand Systems in Illustrator workshop follows on directly from this course.

ඔබට කළ හැකි වන දේ

  • Build custom art, scatter and pattern brushes and apply them to a decorative border
  • Construct a repeating pattern swatch with no visible seam and apply it to a packaging panel
  • Paint with freeform gradients and gradient mesh to model soft shading on a flat vector shape
  • Stack multiple fills and strokes in the Appearance panel and save the result as a reusable graphic style
  • Draw an isometric product illustration using precision transforms and the 3D and Materials effect
  • Build a packaging dieline on its own layer and place artwork accurately against cut and fold lines
  • Change a repeated element across several artboards at once using symbols and Global Edit
  • Set up a two-colour spot job with correct overprint and confirm it in Separations Preview
  • Rework an inherited file: purge unused swatches and brushes, rename layers and simplify heavy paths
  • Export a UI icon set at several scales and formats with Asset Export, and produce a checked print PDF

MyLearnPlus Adobe Faculty

Adobe Certified Professionals teaching the Creative Cloud track

The Creative Cloud track is taught by a small pool of practising designers, retouchers, editors and production artists rather than by one trainer with a broad brochure. Everyone who teaches on this track has to meet the same standard before they take a class: a current Adobe Certified Professional credential in the application they teach, obtained through Certiport in the same way we tell learners to obtain theirs, and recent production experience in a studio, agency or in-house team. Teaching Photoshop here means you still retouch files for clients. Teaching InDesign means you still send documents to print and deal with what comes back. Instructors work on the current Creative Cloud release, and they are expected to know the published exam objectives for the courses that prepare learners for an Adobe exam.

Classes are staffed one instructor per cohort, and the instructor for your date is named in your joining instructions before the course starts. A new instructor teaches the MyLearnPlus syllabus under observation before running it alone, so the exercise files, the workbook and the sequence of a day are the same whoever is in front of you. Large private cohorts are staffed with a second assisting instructor so that nobody waits with a hand up, and hybrid sessions with remote joiners are run with someone watching the online room. If an instructor has to be replaced at short notice the substitute teaches the same syllabus from the same materials, and we tell you before the day rather than on it.

How do I know whether Level 2 is the right level for me?
If you can draw a curve with the Pen tool without fighting it, build artwork in layers, apply swatches and set type, you are ready. If any of that is unfamiliar, take Illustrator Level 1 first, because Level 2 moves quickly through the drawing tools in the first half hour and does not stop to teach them again. Send us a sample of your work if you are unsure and we will tell you honestly which class to book.
Can I bring my own files and work on them?
Yes, and we would rather you did. The last session on the second afternoon is a clinic set aside for files people bring: a packaging layout that will not separate correctly, artwork inherited from a previous designer, a pattern with a seam. Bring the file itself, not a screenshot, and mention it to your instructor at the start of day two so there is time to look at it properly.
Do I need my own laptop, and is the software included?
For live online classes you work on your own machine with Illustrator 2024 or later installed. Adobe subscriptions are not included in the course fee and we do not resell licences. Classroom seats in Colombo come with a workstation and the software ready to go, though you may bring your own laptop if you prefer to work on your usual setup.
What happens if I miss a day?
Every session is recorded and stays available for 12 months. You can also sit the missed half day again with a later cohort at no cost, subject to seats, and you keep your free repeat of the full course on top of that.
Do you issue a certificate, and does this course lead to an Adobe certification?
You receive a MyLearnPlus certificate of completion naming the course, the software version and the hours completed. This course is not built around the Adobe Certified Professional exam objectives, which sit closer to Illustrator Level 1. Adobe Certified Professional exams are sat through Certiport, and no training provider, including us, can award that certification or promise a pass.
Should I take this or the Logo and Brand Systems workshop?
They answer different questions. Level 2 is about production craft across packaging, illustration and print. The one-day Logo and Brand Systems workshop is about turning a single mark into a delivered identity system with variants, rules and a file pack. Most people take Level 2 first, because the workshop assumes you can already build and clean artwork at speed.
Can my employer be invoiced, and can we run this privately for a team?
Yes to both. Organisations in Sri Lanka are invoiced in LKR and organisations elsewhere in USD, and we can issue a pro forma invoice against a purchase order. For a team of four or more, private delivery usually works out better value and lets us rebuild the exercises around your own brand, packaging and press specifications.
