Photoshop AI and Generative Fill

A working day on Generative Fill and Firefly features for people who ship real artwork

මෙම පාඨමාලාව ගැන

Generative Fill demonstrates beautifully and then disappoints on the job. The first result looks convincing on screen, and at print size the texture is soft, the perspective is slightly wrong and the client asks why the shadow falls the other way. This course is about the difference between a generated result and a delivered one.

You start with what the tools actually do. Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generate Background, Generate Similar and the Remove tool each behave differently, and each fails differently. You learn to recognise the failure modes early, so you stop regenerating and start correcting. From there the day is mostly prompting practice: describing subject, lighting, lens and material rather than typing a noun, using the shape of your selection as part of the instruction, working through variations, and conditioning a generation on a reference image so the result matches the rest of a campaign.

The afternoon is production work. You extend a photograph to a new aspect ratio so one shoot covers a print advert and a vertical social post, remove cables, reflections and bystanders from a location shot, build a background for a product photographed on a messy desk, and then repair what the model got wrong by hand: matching grain, rebuilding texture and cleaning up edges with the ordinary Photoshop skills that still decide whether the file passes.

The last module covers the part clients ask about. You inspect the Content Credentials Adobe attaches to generative output, see what provenance information travels with a file, and work through a simple internal position on disclosure, client sign-off and what to check in your own licence before generative work goes into paid advertising. Adobe states that its Firefly models are trained on Adobe Stock and openly licensed or public domain content, and offers indemnification on some business plans; the course shows you where to verify that for your own subscription rather than taking it on trust.

The class runs live online or in the classroom in Colombo, with pricing in LKR for Sri Lanka and USD internationally. You keep the exercise files, the prompt library built during the day and the class recording for twelve months.

ඔබට කළ හැකි වන දේ

  • Choose correctly between Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generate Background and the Remove tool for a given job.
  • Write prompts that specify subject, lighting, lens, material and framing instead of a single noun.
  • Shape a selection deliberately so the marquee itself guides what the model generates.
  • Generate, compare and manage variations, keeping the generative layer stack tidy and editable.
  • Condition a generation on a reference image so the result matches an existing campaign style.
  • Extend a photograph to a new aspect ratio for both a print advert and a vertical social post.
  • Remove cables, reflections and unwanted people from a location shot without leaving a smeared patch.
  • Build a clean product background and correct the generated result for grain, texture and edge quality.
  • Inspect the Content Credentials attached to a generated file and explain what provenance data it carries.
  • Draft a short internal position on disclosure, client sign-off and licence checks for AI-assisted images.

මෙය කා සඳහාද

  • Designers and artworkers asked to produce more sizes and variants from the same photography
  • Marketing and social media staff who resize and adapt campaign images every week
  • Photographers and retouchers deciding where generative tools fit in a paid workflow
  • E-commerce teams producing consistent product backgrounds at volume
  • Studio leads who need a defensible internal policy on AI-assisted imagery

කලින් ඔබට අවශ්‍ය දේ

  • Photoshop Level 1 or equivalent: you should be comfortable with layers, selections and layer masks.
  • Photoshop must be a recent release, since the generative features are updated frequently.
  • No experience with AI image tools is needed.

  • Recognising a bad generation early: perspective, texture, hands, type and repetition 25 min
Module 2 — Prompting inside Photoshop

Getting a usable result in two or three attempts rather than twenty.

  • Selection shape as instruction: how the marquee changes the result 25 min
  • Variations, ratings and keeping the generative layer stack editable 25 min
  • Reference images and matching an existing campaign style 20 min
Module 3 — Production work with generative tools

Four jobs that come up weekly, taken from prompt to a file that would pass review.

  • Extending a photograph to print and vertical social aspect ratios 30 min

MyLearnPlus Adobe Faculty

Adobe Certified Professionals teaching the Creative Cloud track

The Creative Cloud track is taught by a small pool of practising designers, retouchers, editors and production artists rather than by one trainer with a broad brochure. Everyone who teaches on this track has to meet the same standard before they take a class: a current Adobe Certified Professional credential in the application they teach, obtained through Certiport in the same way we tell learners to obtain theirs, and recent production experience in a studio, agency or in-house team. Teaching Photoshop here means you still retouch files for clients. Teaching InDesign means you still send documents to print and deal with what comes back. Instructors work on the current Creative Cloud release, and they are expected to know the published exam objectives for the courses that prepare learners for an Adobe exam.

Classes are staffed one instructor per cohort, and the instructor for your date is named in your joining instructions before the course starts. A new instructor teaches the MyLearnPlus syllabus under observation before running it alone, so the exercise files, the workbook and the sequence of a day are the same whoever is in front of you. Large private cohorts are staffed with a second assisting instructor so that nobody waits with a hand up, and hybrid sessions with remote joiners are run with someone watching the online room. If an instructor has to be replaced at short notice the substitute teaches the same syllabus from the same materials, and we tell you before the day rather than on it.

මිනිසුන් අසන ප්‍රශ්න

Do I need my own laptop, and is Photoshop included?
You work on your own machine, whether you join live online or come to the classroom in Colombo, so the prompt library and presets you build stay with you. Photoshop is not included in the fee. You need a recent release installed and signed in before the first session, since the generative features change with each update.
Do the generative features cost extra to use?
Generative features on Creative Cloud plans draw on Adobe's generative credit allowance, and what you get depends on your plan. Check your subscription before the class so you are not stopped mid-exercise. We send a setup note with the joining instructions explaining what to look for and how to check your remaining allowance.
Can I use generated images in commercial work?
That depends on your licence and your client's terms, and the course shows you where to check both rather than giving a blanket answer. Adobe states that Firefly models are trained on Adobe Stock and openly licensed or public domain content and offers indemnification on some business plans. Your own subscription, your client contract and any broadcast or publishing rules still apply, which is what the final module works through.
Will this replace learning to retouch properly?
No, and the day is explicit about it. Generative results usually need manual repair for grain, texture and edges before they hold up at full size, which is ordinary Photoshop work. If your manual retouching is the weak point, take Photoshop Retouching and Compositing alongside this class.
Is there an Adobe certification for generative AI?
Adobe Certified Professional certifications are delivered through Certiport and include an Adobe Firefly exam, which is focused on Firefly itself rather than on Photoshop. This course is not exam preparation for it. You receive a MyLearnPlus certificate of completion, which is a record of training rather than an Adobe credential.
What if I miss the class?
The session is recorded and available to you for twelve months. If you would rather sit it live again, live bookings include one free repeat of the same class; the terms are shown on the booking page for each date. Because the tools change often, sitting a later run is a reasonable way to catch up with new features.
Can my employer be invoiced, and can you run this in-house?
Yes to both. We invoice organisations against a purchase order, in LKR for Sri Lankan companies and in USD internationally. Private runs use your own product shots and campaign formats, and the final module can be adapted to produce a draft AI usage policy for your team.
